Illegal Immigration
What are the issues surrounding illegal immigration?
National Security: |
Can we feel secure in our homes and public places if we do not have control over who enters our country and how long they stay? Currently more than a million people enter illegally each year. Are criminals and terrorists among them? |
Crime: |
Aside from the fact that illegal aliens are here in violation of the law, statistics point to significantly higher crime rates in the illegal immigrant population. Document forgery, identity theft, and illegal use of stolen Social Security Numbers are nearly universal among illegals. But consider this data regarding hard crime: In Los Angeles, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide (which total 1,200 to 1,500) target illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) are for illegal aliens. |
Education: |
Why are school systems failing in areas with a high population of illegal aliens?
- Overcrowding: illegals do not pay taxes to support the education system, but they fill up classrooms and place a financial burder on our school systems. Because there are more students, teachers and other resources are stretched thin.
- Language barriers: most illegals do not learn our language and do not intend to assimilate to our culture. Therefore English-speaking students must learn at a slow pace to accomodate students who can't keep up because of poor language skills.
|
Culture: |
Illegal aliens are generally loyal to their country of origin. They do not intend to assimilate to our culture and to our language. As a result, our culture is diluted. Witness the southwestern US which many Mexicans believe is rightfully a part of Mexico. They intend to take back Aztlan for their country and enforce their culture in that region. Organizations like MECha and La Raza are at the forefront of this movement. But even without such an open affront to our culture, illegal immigration dilutes the strength of our country and our culture. |
| Economics: |
Illegal aliens generally pay no taxes, and typically send a significant amount of their earnings back to their families in their country of origin. Billions of US dollars are sucked out of our economy each year in this manner.
Illegal aliens also place tremendous burdens on our local governments and our public services. Healthcare systems (expecially hospitals and emergency rooms which can't turn them away) are under tremendous strain in some areas of the country. In the southwestern US, many hospitals have closed as a result. Policing, prosecution, and incarceration of illegal alien crime is costly. Highways are overcrowded in areas of illegal alien concentration, and insurance rates are much higher than they would otherwise be. Poorer Americans and youth cannot find jobs because illegals have taken them at low wage rates. Our standard of living declines with each illegal who enters our country.
|
| Health: |
The two major affects on health in the US from illegal immigration are:
- Entry of previously controlled diseases. Illegal immigrants are not screened for serious infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV, and a number of diseases which were previously eradicated in the US but which are arising anew due to spread by illegal aliens.
- The financial burden on hospitals and emergency rooms has caused many to close. Those which have not yet closed are under increasing financial pressure, and in heavy illegal immigrant areas the wait can be many many hours. This is because illegals often go to an emergency room for minor problems which would normally be treated by a family physician. Because emergency services are free to them, they go there instead, causing long lines and overcrowding. This degrades the service available to legal citizens.
